WHAT IS LCD AND HOW IT WORKS? | FEATURES OF LCD
Are you searching for the information about the display technology called LCD(Liquid crystal display),all you have to do is just go through the information given below you will get a clear cut information about the LCD technology. For your easy understanding the some information is structured as question and answer type hope you can understand.
Liquid crystal refers to compounds which are in crystalline
arrangement but can flow like liquid. The light source coming from the
back light passes through crystal material that can be aligned to either block
or transmit the light LCD technology uses Twisted Nematic Liquid Crystals
so the crystals will be twisted to 90 degrees. Here every pixel is divided into 3 sub pixels those
are red, blue and green.
STRUCTURE OF
LCD
It’s called “LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY” because these
compounds have a crystalline arrangement of molecules and still they flow like a
liquid.
In LED flat panel
display ,two glass plates each containing a light polarizer at right
angles to the other plate ( simply one
polarizer is vertical and the other one is horizontal)they sandwich the liquid
crystal display.
SO HOW IT WORKS
·
As earlier said there are two glass plates one of the glass plate rows
of horizontal transparent are built and columns of vertical conductors are put
into the other plate.
·
Normally the molecules are aligned in the “ON STATE”.
·
Polarized light passing through the material is twisted so that it will
pass through the opposite polarizer.
·
To turn of the pixel we apply a voltage for the two intersecting
conductors to align the molecules so that the light is not twisted.
·
This type of panel lcd is known
as a “PASSIVE-MATRIX LCD”.
LET’S TALK ABOUT ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
- FIRSTLY ADVANTAGES
- FIRSTLY ADVANTAGES
- The main advantage is the power consumption, it consumes less power.
- It is very compact, thin and light especially in comparison with bulky, heavy CRT displays
- Little heat emitted during operation, due to low power consumption
- It can be made in almost any size or shape.
- NOW
DISADVANTAGES
1. Limited viewing angle in
some older and cheaper moniters.
2. Uneven backlighting in some
televisions and moniters.
3. Black levels may not be as
dark as required because individual liquid crystals cannot completely block all
of the backlight from passing through
4. Dead and stuck pixels may
occur during manufacturing or after a period of use.
