What is LED?
| Everything u need to know about LED | SAMSUNG LED TV | LG LED TV
Are you searching for the information about the display
technology called LED(Light emitting diode),all you have to do is just go
through the information given below you will get a clear cut information
about the LED technology. For your easy understanding the some information is
structured as question and answer type hope you can understand.
What Does LED Stand For?
LED stands
for light-emitting diode.
A light-emitting diode is a semiconductor device that emits
visible light when an electrical current passes through it. It is
essentially the opposite of a photovoltaic cell (a device that converts
visible light into electrical current).
So how the led technology used in display?
So how the led technology used in display?
There are
three different LED technologies used. The most commonly used of the three is
edge-lit LED, in which white LEDs are situated around the edge of the screen
and a diffusion panel employed to illuminate the display evenly. Edge-lit LED
displays can be very thin. Another type is dynamic RGB LED, which are placed
behind the panel. RGB LEDs make it possible to target areas for dimming more
precisely, which in turn leads to truer reproduction of blacks and whites. In
the third type of display, full-array LED, LEDs are positioned behind the panel
similarly to the way they are with RGB LED displays but there is no capacity for
localized dimming.
·
Edge lit is where you put the backlight LEDs at the
edge of the display and use light guides to channel the light to the rest of
the screen.
·
Direct lit is where the LEDs are behind the panel.
Providing the potential for greater contrast and brightness.
So my feelings on these two displays?
So my feelings on these two displays?
Direct lit gives you interesting contrast, sometimes the dual
modulation (sometimes called Dynamic Contrast) goes wrong and you see
flickering of the backlight which can be annoying.
What are the advantages?
1. Can be
powered from a portable battery pack or even a solar array.
2. Can be
integrated into a control system.
3. Are small
in size and resistant to vibration and shock.
4. Have a very
fast “on-time” (60 nsec vs 10 msec for an incandescent lamp).
5. Have good
color resolution and present low, or no, shock hazard.
